Player Placements and Tryouts

We hold our annual Player Placements every year in late May - early June. If you're new, this is not the only time you can join the club, but it is the best time to get placed on an appropriate team for the new soccer year (Fall - Winter - Spring seasons).

During evaluations our coaches are looking for a variety of qualities in players - both technical and tactical, along with physical and psychological skills. F.C. Horizon players are creative and courageous. We're looking for players who push the edges of their comfort zone and have the mental toughness to adapt and overcome adversity.

Why Tryouts Matter

F.C. Horizon Premier tryouts are an opportunity for players to step into a competitive training environment and push their game forward.

  • High-level coaching and evaluation
  • Multiple teams formed at each age group
  • Players placed at the level that fits their development

Our goal is to build teams that train hard, compete, and represent the club at a high level - while placing each player in the right environment to grow.

What to Expect at Tryouts

Tryouts are designed to be competitive, organized, and focused on helping players perform at their best.

Players will train and compete in sessions led by our coaching staff, giving them the opportunity to showcase their ability in a team environment.

Our coaches evaluate players based on:

  • Technical skill and decision-making
  • Effort, attitude, and coachability
  • Ability to compete and adapt within a team

Players in each age group will be divided into smaller groups throughout the session for evaluation.

Players will have the opportunity to compete and perform in game-like environments.

Sessions will primarily consist of small-sided and full-sided games (4v4, 7v7, 9v9, 11v11), allowing players to demonstrate their ability in realistic match situations.

Coaches will actively evaluate players throughout the session, moving them between groups and positions to see how they adapt, compete, and respond.

Important Notes

  • Players should attend their assigned age group based on birth year (See chart below for updated US Soccer age groups starting Fall 2026)

  • Players should arrive 10–15 minutes early for check-in

  • Each age group will have one primary tryout session (Thursday, May 21 will be available for extra evaluation sessions as needed)

  • In case of inclement weather, tryout sessions will be moved indoors on the same days

  • Parents should plan to check their player in and then sit outside the training area during the session. This helps reduce extra pressure for all players.

Team Placement and Next Steps

Following tryouts, our coaching staff will form teams based on player evaluations.

F.C. Horizon forms multiple teams at each age group, placing players in environments where they can be challenged and continue to develop.

Our goal is to build competitive teams at every level while placing players in the environment that will best support their growth.

Coaches will notify all families within 24-48 hours following the tryout.

Parents will receive their team placement and an email notification to accept and register via Playmetrics.

Reach New Heights

F.C. Horizon Premier is a year-round commitment designed to support long-term player development.

  • Season runs approximately July–May
  • 2–3 training sessions per week
  • Weekend league games across fall, winter, and spring
  • Participation in seasonal tournaments

Teams train consistently throughout the year, including winter months, to provide a structured and competitive environment. Travel and competition levels vary by team, with some teams competing locally and others traveling for higher-level competition.

Players are expected to commit to their team for the full seasonal year - just as coaches commit to developing their players over that time.

Together

“You get out what you put in.”

F.C. Horizon is built on a commitment to growth, effort, and pushing beyond your comfort zone.

Players are expected to show up ready to work, compete, and support their teammates.

Parents play an important role by helping create a positive, supportive environment where players can thrive.

We ask families to come with a mindset focused on development, patience, and long-term growth, understanding that progress takes time and challenges are part of the process.

Development isn’t always linear—but with the right mindset and environment, players continue moving forward.

FOREVER FORWARD
